Inspired by the events of 2020-21, this is a piece about trauma and its aftermath. The ghost light is a symbol. When the theater is dark, the single solitary lamp acts as a placeholder, holding vigil until the music can return. The music follows the heart’s journey from tragedy to peace.

Humoresque for Harp, Percussion, and Piano (2019) NEW
Commissioned by the husband and wife duo of John Shaw (Percussion) and Anna-Kate Mackle (Harp), ‘Humoresque’ explores the full range of possibilities of this unusual combination. It’s a large-scale piece of contrasts, in which warm romanticism gives way to wicked pranks, humorous quotations, and sarcastic exchanges. Percussion instruments required: low or med tom, marimba, vibraphone, triangle, cymbals (small and large), crotale in G-sharp.

Balance and Power in the Maestro’s Garden for Percussion and Piano (2000)
